History
Persimmon was created by Duncan Davidson in 1972, building houses in Yorkshire before expanding nationwide. Persimmon grew rapidly in the 80’s and was floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1985. The business consists of three main brands, Persimmon Homes, Charles Church and Westbury Partnerships.
The Persimmon Homes business is the main operation. According to Persimmon "building quality homes which provide the very best in design, construction and service. The wide range of property types includes three, four and five-bed detached properties; two and three-bed terraced and semi-detached houses; bungalows and apartments".
Charles Church, described by Persimmon as "one of the country’s foremost house building brands with unrivalled reputation for the design and quality of the homes it builds." The Charles Church brand provides "a range of premium homes in both modern and traditional styles".
The Westbury Partnerships business focuses on social housing by working closely with Housing Associations to help identify solutions of affordable housing problem. This provides an outlet for their timber frame manufacturing operation - space4.
Current CEO Mike Farley, took over from retiring John White in 2006. In 2012 Farley’s total pay was £1.9 million. He also owns 1,147,753 shares in the company that were worth £8,837,700 in September 2012 (770p).

Who they took over and how they grew
In January 2006, the company took over Westbury Plc, which itself had previously taken over Prowting Homes. Other take over acquisitions include the Beazer Group in March 2001 and the Ideal Homes group of companies in February 1996.
