Air Source Heating & Hot Water

Compared with a modern condensing gas boiler, this system can reduce emissions by 50% and heating costs by 30%. The system is likely to pay for itself in 2 to 3 years compared with gas heating. In areas where gas is not available, a Mitsubishi Ecodan system for example, offers significant reductions in running costs over oil.  In addition maintenance costs are low and the system has an average life span of 15 to 20 years which compares very favourably to the 5 years a modern condensing boiler is expected to last.

These systems are easily fitted in new homes or can be fitted retrospectively in existing homes in just a few days. Grant Funding is available, as the system uses free heat from the outside air it is classed as a renewable energy source qualifying under BERR’s low carbon building programme.

Allied Cooling Services (ACS) are an official installer of Ecodan systems. ACS are Microgeneration approved installers. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certificates microgeneration technologies used to produce electricity and heat from renewable sources.  The MCS is also linked to financial incentives which include Feed in Tariffs. In addition, to get access to the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) you will need to use an installer like ACS.

Save on heating costs with air source heat pumps

Heat pumps work by extracting warmth from either the ground (ground source) or the air (air source) transferring it into the home to heat radiators and provide hot water using a heat exchanger filled with a refrigerant. The technology is basically the same as that used in a domestic a fridge - only in reverse.

Unlike ground source systems, which are more expensive to install, requiring extensive lengths of pipe work buried 4 feet underground; air source systems only require a relatively small wall-mounted heat exchanger. Surprisingly, air source heating systems operate effectively even when the external temperature is minus 20ºC. The systems are self-regulating meaning that you never use more energy than is necessary.  In fact the only energy used is the electricity that the pump uses making it one of the most energy efficient ways to heat your home and hot water.
