History
Redrow was started by Steve Morgan in 1974 after borrowing £5,000 from his father to start a small civils firm focusing on local trench-digging and drainage projects. After expanding into main contracting in Cheshire and Merseyside, the downturn in the contracting industry in the early 1980’s was a catalyst to the firm moving into the private house building market. In 1982 Redrow Homes was formed, initially in North Wales and North West England.
In 1987 Redrow acquired Whelmar Homes expanding the company into Lancashire. Redrow also bought Costain Homes for £25 million in 1993 and after further expansion throughout the UK Redrow was floated on the stock exchange in 1994.
After leaving the company in 2000, Steve Morgan returned as Chairman in April 2009. Redrow’s original “Heritage Homes” were first launched as long ago as 1983 and were again re designed in 1997 as the “New Heritage Range”. In February 2010, Redrow yet again re launched their “New Heritage Collection” of family homes, in their words “featuring traditional elevations with up-to-the-minute interiors.”
Redrow sees itself as a middle to upper income bracket home builder. However, they operate a Part X with easi:buy, MasterMove and the government’s HomeBuy schemes.

Some site managers employed by Redrow Homes are being used in their advertising in the “Our pride your joy” campaign. “I only build homes I’d feel proud to call my own”
However Redrow Homes Site Managers won just 13 NHBC Quality Awards in both 2011 and 2010.
