"Curse of the botched new build homes" by Ruth Lythe

"The biggest cause for low quality on new housing sites is, in my opinion, the end-of-year figures panic that sets in November and December and in May and June every year. I would advise anyone buying a new home, to not buy a new home that is due to be completed in May or June or in November or December because it will be rushed."

"If it looks remotely possible that a house could be ready in time to be included in the company’s end-of-year figures, it will be rushed!"

"The shocking truth about new-build homes

by David Hurst"

"At the end of the construction process, there won’t even be time to actually snag the property, just to make sure everything that is supposed to be there, is there. If it is wrong it stays wrong and is [hopefully] put right afterwards"

"Speed and numbers and profit have always been regarded as more important than quality and it’s a sad indictment of this industry"

A decade on: Devizes housing development -  Ben Prater

BBC-Radio-Wiltshire-Adopted-roads-11-Jan-2017-Edited.mp3People in Devizes are still fighting to get their roads and lighting finished a decade on. BBC Radio Wiltshire reports on a David Wilson Homes' development that is still without streetlight ten years after the last home moved in. New Home Expert founder of website a website that advises people buying new homes what do you make of this?

"House builders don’t really give a service to buyers, after the first 8 to 10 weeks once the buyer have completed the HBF/NHBC survey. They only care about their star rating. I have buyers contact me almost daily basis complaining that they have been let down by their builders asking me what they can do and what safeguards they’ve got. The reality is they have got no protection at all.

If they could go to a government-appointed independent new homes ombudsman, who could then adjudicate on the disputes and actually pay them justifiable compensation. There isn’t a single route a buyer can take to get compensation. The best they can hope for is at some stage their homes will be brought up to the standard they should have been when they first moved in."

Campaigning for better quality through his website: the 'New Home Expert' told him:

"In my opinion it is not impossible to build a perfect home. The only tangible thing you need is time, time to inspect it and time to correct defective work. Unfortunately, time is something this industry doesn't have or want to have."

"The very fact that a New Homes Ombudsman existed would mean that house builders would need to raise their game. They would have to look at their customers problems rather than just dismiss them knowing that the end result is it would go to an Ombudsman and they would adjudicate and the builder would have no say. In the matter and there would be no right of appeal. This would mean it would be in the house builder's best interests to either build better quality new homes or make their customers happy so they don't need to go to the Ombudsman"
